We found a cabin, so off to Acadia National Park we go. Maine has a certain calling for me, we visit as often as we can and often times find ourselves dreaming about a little piece of land or a cabin of our own….someday. For now a few days in the peace and quiet will help us both escape an incredibly overwhelming month and an entire week of heavy carry-out food. My Joy+Ride goal was to focus more on MP and Lottie and myself. Just focus, and find an awareness that feels so fleeting lately. Here it is, almost June, and I’m just now sorting it out. Ah well, better late than never. The joy will come.

Bar Harbor is only about 4+ hours from here, but it may as well be a world away. I’m bring reading materials for weeks- I’m particularly thrilled about this one. I’m only a few chapters in and already I can tell that this may go down as an all-time favorite. The weather promises to be a bit cooler than Boston (thankfully) and most of the sea kayaking outfitters still have openings.
Have a wonderful Memorial Holiday, or just a great ol’ weekend! Here’s to Maine!

ah, a cabin. I grew up on 240 acres, and had grandparents on a lake, so we had no need for a cabin. days were filled with exploring and trips to grandma’s could happen on the school bus. My husband’s family has a cabin and it is magic–nothing fancy, but just the smell of the pines, the sound of the water are enough to wake me early to snuggle into the hammock and listen to the birds. enjoy!

I’m so jealous! My hubby and I were supposed to head out to the WI cottage next weekend for his birthday (without kids), but my hospital stay will ruin it all (although, I look forward to reading a stack of books & write during my stay). We’re hoping for the following weekend, if I’m recovered.
It’s amazing how life takes over and we forget about the important things. Have a great trip and expect lots of photos of sweet, sweet Lottie!

I wished I’d known sooner you were going to MDI – I spent most of my growing up summers there, and my Dad & Uncle live there full time. It’s a wonderful place – beware Bar Harbor itself, it’s very touristy. But the rest of the island is fabulous. If you do gt this comment while you’re still looking for things to do, give my Uncle Winnie a call – he does reasonably priced, private boat tours.

And he’s a fantastic photographer as well!
Enjoy my most favorite little spot – from Candy, on the complete opposite end of the country in S. CA!

Thank you all! See the photo above? Me thinks it was taken 10 years ago, cuz it did NOT look like that.
Kristina! You will LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. I don’t want to put it down, it’s transporting me through time and space. The second chapter (written from the dog’s perspective) made me choke up more than once. Fabulous and I’m only 1/3 of the way in.
Candied ~ I wish I’d gotten your email! We came home early, Bar Harbor was a real touristy area, but it was early enough in the season that the tourists were all one of three things: German, Russian, or Indian! Kind of neat!I did enojoy how dog friendly is was, we could take Lottie in the restaurants, wheee! Luckily we were pretty far from Bar Harbor itself, and the rest of the island/region is just jaw-dropping. Gorgeous. We spent the entire time trying to figure out how we could move there and make a living.

That would be lovely! But I am home already…lol. The cabin was tiny, and very cold. Next time I will plan ahead instead of waiting ’til the last minute.
