With dryer, cooler air my hair relaxes a bit. No more wiry, frizzy curls- more like soft waves. And when my hair straightens out like this, all of a sudden it’s much much longer than I realized. So, last night at my appointment I had 6″ cut off! And thinned. And layered. Now, I feel like I’ve lost 10 pounds.

A major haircut always makes me feel like a million bucks. Cutting away all the old, dry ends feels new and exciting…. couple this with the changing of the seasons, and all sorts of new energy is flowing. After this weekend, I will have a bit more time to work on some patterns and preparation….. so I will update here on my progress!

Thank goodness no one begged me not to do it! Thinking about the results, I have some ideas I am very excited about. I doubt anything will truly happen before Christmas, but I am going to start pricing and sourcing some things and will keep you updated here. Thanks to everyone that voted!

Someone decided to surprise me with a lovely, incredible care package of good-ness. I guess my anxiety has really been showing here!
Leslie’s blog continually provides inspiration and excitement, I love learning about Japan and seeing it through her insightful eyes. And her shop? Always full of tempting treasure.

Now, look at this booty! Stunning Lotta fabrics – screaming out to become a new bag. And I will definitely use these little button blanks to adorn something that is in the works. And the candies and tea – oh my! Addicting!

Thank you Leslie. You thoughtfulness reminded me how much is right in this world and that things will soon be back on track.
I’m sitting in my car at a meter spot on a busy street, waiting for MP to get out of an appointment. While eating a bagel, and sharing a little with Lottie, it struck me that Wifi might be floating in the air. Sure enough…. I’m checking email and writing a blog post! On the street. In my car.

Sitting here, listening to This American Life – I’ve become engrossed in the drama of the Trader Joe’s parking lot. This is a sizable Trader Joe’s in a dense neighborhood. It’s rather large and appears to have about 25 parking spots. There’s a police officer directing traffic and screaming at people who look dazed from the whole experience. My favorite quote thus far: “Git yah head outta yah aaaass”. I can’t help but wonder WHY people put themselves through this experience. I mean, I like TJ’s products as much as the next guy, but I’ve never seen a TJ’s parking lot that did not resemble Thunderdome. People are yelling, honking, waving hand signals…. it’s awful. This Trader Joe’s in Brookline is no different from ours in Cambridge, except ours is a little bigger and a little worse. We’ve tried going late at night, but you battle the student crowd. We’ve tried going in the early morning, but then it’s the baby carriage crowd. In the afternoon – it’s the yuppies on their cell phones. You can’t win. We’ve let it go, haven’t shopped there in years, primarily due to the parking situation. The other factor that contributes to our Trader Joe’s abstinence is the teeny tiny aisles and packed conditions inside the store with people on the edge of nervous breakdowns. Why put yourself through that?

The cop appears off duty now, and in the 10 minutes he sat in his car on the phone, there was an accident.

In other news, I have purchased the yarn for Floria’s Christmas stocking. Poor little girl will finally have an heirloom, knitted stocking of her own. Lamb’s Pride Bulky on 15’s will felt up nicely into a thick, woolen stocking to be filled with Christmas treasure.
I could not resist trying out the new poll feature on wordpress! I promise not to cover this blog with polls, but I do think they are fun. I am thinking of joining the ranks and starting a little etsy shop. I think it will be quite small…..sewing patterns and the occasional garment. What do you think?

One of my favorite sites is Martha’s Vineyard Fiber Farm. I love to see what Susan is up to on the island and I find her photographs stunning. I don’t ever see just ‘farm critters’, I see the personality of each animal that she captures beautifully. She recently updated her etsy shop with all natural, wool quilting batts.

It’s like nothing I’ve ever felt. I’m shocked at how soft it is. At first there was panic because I thought I received stuffing, not a batt. That’s how soft it is. But when I unwrapped it, what unfurled was the softest, smoothest batting I’ve ever touched. And it’s all wool- hello cozy.

So you know what that means? Yes – I am thinking of trying it all again. I would like a lap quilt for the living room, and with winter on it’s way it will be a fun project to work on in the coming months (after I start and finish Floria’s stocking). I really want to use up the mountain of great scraps I’ve been squirreling away and I have some small pieces of vintage fabrics/small runs that I’d like to incorporate. We shall see….
In other news – WordPress now has a polldaddy feature! I love polls… I think I already know what my first one will be.

So much has come unraveled in the last month. I can’t help but want to write a post about all the things I’ve let fall by the wayside, for no other reason than writing those items down. Then, I could have a list to check on when I start to lose focus (yet again). But, I’m not even feeling focused enough to write a list. The thoughts and ideas are fleeting. Dinner has devolved into cheese crackers and water. And the only one maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the Habitual Household is Lottie.
But lo! The three day weekend allowed me to battle back! A few small steps back into my life-as-I-previously-understood-it happened and I’m starting to slightly in control of things again. Perhaps it’s the change in weather; crisp, clear fall days spent outdoors. Or maybe it’s just the mountain of what isn’t being done started crushing me and left me no choice. Either way, I spent the weekend sewing! I was able to use fabrics purchased eons ago, and I feel very good about this pattern (it will be a while before you see it though….so this is just a teaser).
